Great Metallica songs matching with horrible people

I had a weird idea: matching horrible and public people with some of the best Metallica songs. Why Metallica? Because everyone loves and knows Metallica all over the world, young and adult people in the same way. Metallica were like a powerful beacon in the ocean of music, since eighties until now. Metallica are legend, and that’s a fact.

So, let’s start:

1- SEEK AND DESTROY*

Searching, Seek and destroy

There is no escape and that is for sure

This is the end we won’t take any more

Say goodbye to the world you live in

You have always been taking

But now you’re giving

I know, I know, there are many people we’d like to seek and destroy, so many people who match this song BUT, though we are still living in the age of Covid, I’m pretty sure the first people to seek and destroy should be the ones called “Pandemia Profiteers”. They are like vampires sucking blood from barely dead humans. Well, who are these gentlemen? A research made by Institute for Policy Studies highlights how USA billionaires have grown their fortune with 282 billion dollars in just 23 days, since March 18 to April 10 2020. In the same 23 days, 22 million American people started unemployment claims.

So, what do you think? Is this democracy? I think it isn’t but it’s just my opinion. What I can tell you for sure is name of Pandemia Profiteer number 1: Mister Jeff Bezos; Pandemia Profiteer number 2: Mister Elon Musk and number 3 is Jeff Bezos ex-wife and his first business partner, Mrs McKenzie Bezos. I really mean: this is not American dream, this is just American nightmare.

*disclaimer: when I quote Seek and Destroy I don’t mean anything violent. It’s just a metaphor. But when I say we should change this unfair, wicked, medieval system, all over the world, I mean we really should change it.

2 -THE UNFORGIVEN

The Unforgiven: racist and cruel police. George Floyd murales

New blood joins this earth and quickly he’s subdued

Through constant pain disgrace the young boy learns their rules

The Unforgiven makes me think about Derek Chauvin, policeman who killed George Floyd on 2020, May 25 in Minneapolis. Makes me think about the other three policemen who helped Chauvin in Floyd murder. George Floyd was unarmed but he was arrested violently and Chauvin crushed him to the ground; Floyd tried to say he couldn’t breathe again and again but they held on, choking him to death. There’s a shocking video about George death, and few days after Floyd murder, Rayshard Brooks, another young Afro-American man, was sleeping in a parking area in Atlanta, when three policemen woke him up in a threatening manner, scared him so much he took a taser off policeman hands and tried to run away on foot. Policemen could easily chase him but they preferred to shoot in Rayshard back three times, killing him.

After Minneapolis and Atlanta event many other videos showed unarmed and helpless Afro-American men brutally killed by racist and cruel police. Because “it’s through a constant pain that men, women and boys can learn their rules.” I can’t really guess anyone who can be considered more Unforgiven than these American racist policemen. Deeply Unforgiven.

3 -KING NOTHING

Then it all crashes down/ And you break your crown/ And you point your finger but there’s no one around/

Just want one thing/ Just to play the King/ But the castle’s crumbled and you’re left with just a name/

Where’s your crown, King Nothing? Where’s your crown?

Actually, King Nothing cannot be anyone else but Donald Trump. He always said meaningless things, he always “played the King” like a child, but, until 2019 all the powerful lobbies considered him politically strong, so they endured and supported him. After the coming of Covid things changed. Trump started doing just mistakes. A lot of. He undervalued the incoming outbreak, he underestimated how much poverty was brought by lockdown to American people and, in a useless and undesirable attempt to distract people, Trump started telling so many dangerous bullshit, like “drinking bleach kills virus” or “scientists found vaccine against Aids (???), sure they’ll get vaccine against Covid”.

The King was out of control, definitively. Suddenly, everybody abandoned him, even all the good and republican Bush family, even the same old Colin Powell who used perjuring about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. If Donald Trump, bout his re-election, shouldn’t fight against another Nothing like Biden, I could bet Trump is going to lose. But making predictions about United States of America is quite difficult: I mean, you never know what’s gonna happen!

4 - FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE

Fight fire with fire: 20 years after Columbine and nothing changed
Columbine mass shooting twenty years after: still “fighting fire with fire”

Fight fire with fire/ Ending is near/ Fight fire with fire/ Bursting with fear/ We shall die

Time is like a fuse, short and burning fast

In United States there are much more firearms used by civilian people (423 million, number proudly shown by NSSF) than people (382,2 million in 2019). United States have just the 4.4% of the world’s population and the 42% of the armed civilians of the whole world and hold the record for number of persons killed by firearms all over the Western Countries. In United States there’s more than one mass shooting for day (a mass shooting means there are at least 4 victims). Don’t you think it’s just a little abnormal and sick? In Europe we can’t understand: what’s the matter? What’s the problem with those damn guns? Why do Americans need to bear arms? Why don’t they study in a better way American history just to know that Thomas Jefferson didn’t mean this slaughter by approving the Second Amendment?

United States have powerful lobbies representing firearms owners, and all these lobbies are paid by arms industries. These lobbies spend a huge amount of money to influence Congress decisions. So, perhaps, everything revolves around the old damn money, as everything else. No matter how many people die. No matter how many young boys and girls throw their lives away. No matter how many mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends cry and despair. Nothing matters when you decide that you want to be rich “fighting fire with fire.”

5 -MASTER OF PUPPETS

Who are the Masters of Puppets?

Come crawling faster/ Obey your master/ Your life burns faster/ Obey your… Master of Puppets, I’m pulling your strings/ Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams/ Blinded by me, you can’t see a thing

I’m pretty sure the Great Master of Puppets, the one who is pulling Mighty and Head of States strings, leaving someone else pulling — on his behalf — strings of the nobodies, is Mister Zuckerberg. He wins without fighting. The theatre belongs to him. Blinded by him, we can’t see a thing, but we think we can. Course, he’s not the only Master of Puppets, but — too bad or too good for him — he’s the one we know better.

6 -Enter Sandman

Sandman by Vanilca in Deviant Art

Something’s wrong, shut the light/ Heavy thoughts tonight/ And they aren’t of Snow White/

Dreams of war, dreams of liars/ Dreams of dragon’s fire/ And of things that will bite/

Sleep with one eye open/ Gripping your pillow tight

Exit, light/ Enter, night/ Take my hand/ We’re off to never-never land

Enter Sandman is, definitively, my favorite Metallica song. I love it even more than their masterpiece Nothing else matters. Sandman is not a simple demon; he represents Ultimate Evil, in a metaphysical sense. Sandman is total darkness, in a way we can find just in billion years far from the closer star glimpses of Universe. Sandman means end of knowledge, end of consciousness and beginning of a new beast-like existence, deprived day-by-day of its identity.

Here’s the reason I can’t find a human being so diabolically powerful to match with Enter Sandman. But there is something matching Sandman at best. This something is called Social Media. George Orwell, in 1984, said:

“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.”

And that’s exactly what Social Media do. “Take my hand, we’re off to Never Never Land” is what Social Media whisper in our ears, while the light is gone: take my hand, I’ll take you to a place that doesn’t exist. I’ll take you to Nowhere Land, your new Homeland, your brand new nest and you won’t need anything else. I will be a nonexistent Wonderland: no White Rabbit, no Mad Hatter, no vanishing Cat but you’ll have a new mind, made by me and forgetting the truth will set you free.
